Our team is intentionally flat. There are no silos and little bureaucracy: the people making decisions are the same people doing the research, and every one of them has spent their career in small companies.
That structure is a deliberate choice: in an asset class this under-covered, seamless communication and deep, shared experience are worth more than headcount.
Andrey joined Seven Canyons in February 2020 as a portfolio manager for Ark Global Emerging Companies, LP. He was previously Portfolio Manager and Senior Analyst at Wasatch Advisors, where he co-managed the Wasatch Emerging Markets Small Cap fund. A CFA charter holder, he has also worked as a CPA in Deloitte’s audit practice, and holds an MBA and a Master of Accounting from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
Spencer co-founded Seven Canyons in 2017 and is a portfolio manager for Ark Global Emerging Companies, LP. He was previously a Portfolio Manager at Grandeur Peak Funds, where he managed the Emerging Markets Opportunities Fund (GPEIX) and co-managed the International Opportunities (GPIOX) and Global Reach (GPROX) funds. Before Grandeur Peak, Spencer worked at Sidoti & Company and Wasatch Advisors.
Wes co-founded Seven Canyons and was a portfolio manager from 2017–2019, followed by a two-year term as CIO at Acacia Research (NASDAQ: ACTG). Now back at the firm, he is Portfolio Manager of the Golby Global Fund and a contributor to the research team. Wes was previously Director of Research at Fleckenstein Capital and a partner and Portfolio Manager at S-Squared Technology, LLC.
Since joining Seven Canyons in 2019, Matt has contributed across the research, operations, and marketing teams before transitioning fully to research, where he works as a research analyst. He graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Science in Finance and a minor in Advanced Financial Analysis.
Sam joined Seven Canyons in 2022 as a Junior Analyst. He was previously an investment analyst intern at Banyan Growth Partners and has experience in audit accounting. He graduated from the University of Utah in 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in Quantitative Analysis of Markets and Organizations, with an accounting emphasis.
Scott joined Seven Canyons in 2023. He spent the first half of his career as a Managing Director in the capital-markets divisions of Drexel Burnham and Merrill Lynch, then moved into asset management at Chicago-based Institutional Capital, where he served as Head of Client Service, President, and CEO. Most recently he was Head of Client Service at Epoch Investment Partners in New York and served on its Operating Committee. He earned his MBA from the University of Wisconsin.
Eric joined Seven Canyons when it was formed in 2017. He began his career as a manufacturing engineer in Silicon Valley — at Space Systems/Loral, Adept Technology, and SurgRx — and spent 13 years as a CEO in the health and senior-care industry before Seven Canyons. He earned an MBA from Brigham Young University.
